Our cutlery drawers are changing. Where once you might expect knife and fork to have equal billing, now it’s the fork who is emerging as the headline act. Western eating habits continue to change. Where once we might have had a sit down meal round the table we now are more likely to grab a quick bite for lunch in a ten minute break and eat it with our mobile in one hand and of course a fork in the other.
How we eat us also being changed by what we eat. In particular the influence of Asian and Middle Eastern rice and grain based dishes has that for an increasing number of meals we eat these days, no cutting required.
There’s even a new diet called Forks over Knives (forksoverknives.com) which emphasises the health benefits of a diet that is more plants than meat.
Sorry knives, but it seems these days it’s all about the fork.
